Description
Louët hand cards and combs
Carding and combing are pre-treatments to be able to align the the hairs or fibers in the same direction. This makes it easier to felt or spin the material. When combing, the hairs are more stretched than when carding. This difference determines the character of a spun thread.
Louët hand cards are made of a very light and strong type of wood, of which for example piano keys are also made. The card stock used by Louët is made of galvanized steel wire. The high quality guarantees a long service life.
Types of Hand cards
The 19 x 10 cm hand cards are available per pair. Standard with fine cloth (46 tpi = dots per square inch) or with very fine cloth (110 tpi = dots per square inch), for silk, alpaca wool, super fine merino and other fine materials.
The small hand cards of 10 x 10 cm also have the very fine fittings (110 points per square inch).
The single card brush (flicker, 6 x 10 cm) is a special tool for loosening of felted wool tops and to tease locks of fibre in preparation for spinning. But you can also use it as an ordinary small card brush. It has a cloth of 72 tpi.
Manual hand card – Wool combs
The wool combs are 6,5 cm wide and available per pair in two versions; standard with a single and on request also with a double row of pins. The double row of pins is especially suitable for very fine wool. The wool combs are made of lacquered ash wood.
