Description

Louët drum carders

The Dutch manufacturer Louët is best known for its spinning wheels and looms. In addition, they also make supplies for traditional bookbinding and for carding wool and other fibers.

Louët products are valued worldwide for their excellent quality, efficiency and their original, timeless design.

Louët offers various drum carders. They are quality products that are made for a long life. The bodies are made  of laminated birch and have a hard white coating. The rolls of 10, 19 or 30 cm width are equipped with 46 tpi (fine) or 72 tpi (extra fine) carding.

46 or 72 tpi card cloth

The card cloth  is made of galvanized steel wire for a long service life. For the drum carders, two types of card cloths are used.

Fine cloth of 46 points per square inch (46 tpi) are suitable for carding wool and other coarse fibers.

Extra fine cloth of 72 points per square inch (72 tpi) is better suited for cardng finer fibers and to mix different colors or types of fine wool or other fibers.

Ratio of roll speeds

In the case of drum carders, the acceleration between the rollers is normally given. This is for the Elite 6: 1 or 9: 1 and for the other drum carders 3.8: 1. For the effectiveness of the carding, however, the difference in surface velocity between the large and the small roller is more important. For this you multiply the acceleration with the ratio of the diameters of the two rollers. The speed ratio of 46 tpi drum carders is 9: 1, that of the 72 tpi is 12: 1. The Elite has two speed ratios, namely: 23: 1 and 34:1.

Included accessories

All drum carders are supplied with a comprehensive manual, a cleaning brush, a doffer pen and two table clamps, with which the drum can be attached to the side of a table. The electric drums are delivered without clamps; these are not necessary due to the weight of these machines.

The different models

Drum carder  Junior

Entry models with a narrow roller of 10 cm wide, with fine 46 tpi cloth or extra fine 72 tpi cloth.

Kaardmolen Standaard/Classic

Drum carder  Standard

These models have a 19 cm wide roller, with fine 46 tpi cloth or extra fine 72 tpi cloth. The 46 tpi version was formerly called “Classic” and in our opinion this is the most widely applicable model. It is suitable for carding coarse coats and carding and mixing other not too fine fibers.

Spare parts

Sometimes you lose part of a card mill or you use it so much that it needs to be replaced. Many parts can therefore be delivered separately. Cleaning brushes, takeaway pens and table clamps are usually in stock. On order are also available: card holders, gear sets, drums for the drums and string sets for electric drum carders.
