Description
Widely applicable
This beautiful quality wool comes from South American merino sheep and is therefore mulesing-free. It is dyed in Germany according to the Ökotex-100 standard in 54 different colours.
Meervilt! South- American Merino Wool 27 micron wool roving is excellent quality and gives a very beautiful, subtly shiny result. It is widely applicable, for example for making bags, notebook covers, wool paintings, slippers, rugs, etc. This wool is also widely used by schools for felting with children. With a fineness of 27 microns, this wool might be too coarse for many people to make clothing that is worn on the skin since this quality might tickle.
This wool is mulesingfree.
Matching white wool
Among the 54 colours of the medium-fine South American Merino wool roving you will find colour 701 bone white. This white is not dyed, but bleached. The bleaching damages the scales of the wool fiber, making wet felting more difficult. With needle felting, this is not a problem at all.
For wet felting we have unbleached white wool with good wet felting properties, which suits the coloured medium fine merino: natural wool color 401 New Zealand.

How long is this roving?
Wool is usually sold per weight. But sometimes you want to know how long the wool roving is. We have calculated the roving length of the different packages below:
- 50 grams = approx. 2 meters
- 250 grams = about 10 meters
- 1 kilo = about 40 meters
- Bump of 4.5 kilos = approx. 180 meters
Please note that this is an approximation. The length can vary per type of wool, per colour or per production. And the harder you pull, the longer the roving becomes.
Would you want to make sure you get the wool roving in one piece?
We try our best to deliver the roving in one piece. But please count in that even when we try our best we don’t always succeed. Sometimes we have no choice but to deliver the desired quantity in two or more pieces. If it is very important and you want to make sure you get the wool roving in one piece, please order a bump.
Order enough!
A natural product like wool is not always the same. Every herd, every sheep and every shaving season is different. Therefore, make sure that you order sufficient wool for your project at once. We can not guarantee that you will receive exactly the same wool for the next order.
Is this wool colorfast, and how about washing?
For our wool, modern synthetic dyes of high quality are used. These have a great color strength, they are non-toxic and they are stable. They can, however, fade under the influence of light, as is the case with all textiles. The extent to which this happens is very much dependent on the color. Also by washing the wool can pale or give off color. The latter you might sometimes also notice during felting. Pay special attention to colors such as bright pink and hard turquoise. While working with the strong colours wear work clothes that can get stained!
