Techniques for using Dupont Classique Silk Dye:
- Painting in the Pan:
- Start by weighing the dry silk to determine the exact amount of paint needed for your project.
- Add 1-5% colourless vinegar to a quantity of warm water sufficient to immerse the wool (or silk) in.
- Soak the fabric thoroughly so that it is fully saturated.
- Choose a pan, preferably stainless steel, and fill it with enough lukewarm water to allow the fabric to move freely.
- Add the right amount of dye: 0.5-15% of the dry weight of the wool/fabric to Dupont Classique, depending on the desired shade. So: for 100 grams of fabric, use 15 ml of dye to obtain a full colour; less for a lighter shade.
- Introduce the wet substance into the pan and gradually increase the temperature, stirring frequently until just below boiling point.
- Maintain this temperature for about 30 minutes, making sure to stir frequently to ensure even colouring.
- Then let the fabric cool to room temperature and follow the recommended washing instructions.
- Microwave technology:
- Make sure the fabric is thoroughly wet beforehand.
- Place the fabric in a microwave-safe bowl and add the Dupont silk dye.
- Heat for a few minutes at 600 watts in the microwave. This technique is ideal for quick and even colouring.
- Dyeing with the Washing Machine:
- Ideal for larger quantities of fabric or garments. Simply add the Dupont silk dye to your washing machine.
- Start the standard washing programme and follow the usual washing instructions after dyeing.
Additional Notes:
- Dyeing fabrics is both an art and a science. Even with the same proportions and techniques, results can vary, especially since silk is a natural product.
- It is always advisable to dye a sample fabric first to assess the desired result before dyeing larger quantities of fabric.
